Kajala, a 50ft barge is a good example of our working with owner and designer in building a boat a little different from the ordinary. Kajala is based on a new design from offshore specialist Andrew Wolstenholme. She is a particularly attractive boat with good traditional looks and fine lines and hull shape.

Propulsion is provided by a 280bhp Caterpillar diesel (plenty of power in reserve) with full electronic controls. Ease of navigation is ensured by GPS and radar and handling aided by a Vetus bow prop.The specification was for a gas free boat so a 16kw Cat generator is fitted providing sufficient power for cooking, washer/dryer and full AC circuit and battery charging via a Mastervolt unit.Heating is provided by Webasto warm air and a Bubble oil stove with back boiler to radiators and calorifier.

Kajala’s owner wanted the interior to mirror the style of a J class yacht and whilst recreating this intricate joinery presented a challenge we feel we are justifiably proud of the end results.

Interior layout is reasonable conventional with bow and stern sleeping cabin and central saloon/galley area. But it is in the joinery styling that Kajala really stands out. Cabin lining, furniture and doors are all in handmade solid cherry fielded panels. Each of these panels is individually made and provides an exceptional depth of quality and finish. Deckhead lining is in off white painted tongue and groove boarding and flooring in oak planking. Worktops are in Corian.
